IBC 2016: SGL unveils major new FlashNet features

SGL is demonstrating the latest version of its FlashNet archive, which will be shown for the first time in Europe, at IBC 2016.  Providing broadcasters, post production facilities, and news/sport organizations with reliable, scalable solutions with substantial cost and workflow benefits, FlashNet now includes a number of key new features.

sgl-logoSGL now supports reading and restoring from SMPTE’s Archive eXchange Format (AXF). FlashNet can read and process AXF objects providing greater flexibility for customers, ensuring long term availability of content in the future – regardless of technology evolution. The company is also highlighting its support for Ci, Sony’s cloud-based service, which allows media professionals to collaborate on the creation and sharing of high quality, high resolution content. The SGL integration with Ci means that media companies can quickly and easily transfer material directly to the cloud from their MAM system using SGL FlashNet. As well as Ci, SGL also supports Amazon S3 via Aspera and ExpeDat Gateway.

The new version of FlashNet also allows customers to allocate a pre-defined number of drives within their library for a specific role, such as archiving Avid jobs only, or restoring/archiving material at a certain time of day. This enables larger broadcasters with multiple drives to further improve operational procedures.

As well as these new features SGL is launching its entry-level archive solution FlashNet Lite during IBC 2016. Providing media companies with a highly cost-effective archive that can expand as their requirements grow, FlashNet Lite includes SGL’s new elegant user interface FlashNet Infinity.

“We’re very excited about the new version of FlashNet, which includes a number of key features that significantly improve and simplify the archive process, as well as delivering new solutions that fit the requirements and budget of every media company,” explainsLee Sheppard, SGL’s Director of Product Management.

SGL will also have a number of partner demonstrations on its stand throughout the show by Arvato Systems, Empress, Glookast, Marquis, Primestream and VSN, with more to be announced in the coming weeks. The company will also highlight its Avid Interplay Web Services plug-in with Partial File Restore powered by Glookast and its enhanced API with support for REST Integration.
