LYON Video Deploys Grass Valley LDX Cameras for Live HD Mobile Productions

Mobile-production company LYON Video has deployed 12 Grass Valley (Booth SL206) LDX WorldCam camera systems for use in its LYON12 mobile-production truck, which broadcasts various sports events for customers including ESPN, Speed, and Fox Sports Network. In conjunction with an existing fleet of Grass Valley cameras, the new LDX units recently covered the conclusion of regular-season play of NCAA men’s college basketball on ESPN as well as the 61st-annual 12 hours of Sebring auto endurance race at Sebring (FL) International Raceway.

LYON12 is a 53-ft. expando designed with current technologies to be upgraded over time. The WorldCam cameras are used in tandem with a powerful Grass Valley Kayenne Video Production Center switcher and are fed into a fiber network using Grass Valley’s 3G Transmission solutions to accommodate the long distances between the various venues and the truck.

“The LDX WorldCam is easily the most versatile HD camera system we’ve ever used,” said Chad Snyder, account manager at LYON Video. “The cameras operate on both fiber and triax cable, producing excellent picture quality with both infrastructures. Their superior image sensitivity eliminates the need for additional lighting, which we witnessed during night shoots at Sebring International Raceway, and their incredible operator features enable us to quickly adapt to different production situations. Speed praised our new LDX fleet for the sharp, rich colors and ultra-low-noise images we produced during the race, and, when you get feedback like that, you know you have a winning solution.”

The WorldCam — part of the LDX Series, which also includes the LDX Première, LDX Elite, and LDX Flex — is a multiformat camera offering 1080p50/60 performance and full compatibility with Grass Valley 3G Transmission solutions to deliver stunning HD images. The WorldCam houses three state-of-the-art Xensium-FT CMOS imagers, eliminating rolling shutter effects and delivering an ergonomic design with such features as improved color management and automated controls.

“We are delighted that the LDX WorldCam camera system is enabling LYON Video to push the boundaries of live HD sports productions in their production of high-quality creations for its numerous clients,” said Andy Jackson, SVP, North America Region, at Grass Valley. “With high-quality artistic imagery and increased functionality, the LDX WorldCam cameras will ease the complexity of HD and 3D production, providing LYON Video with a future-proofed and flexible system that enables seamless switching between multiple video formats.”
