Télé-Québec, Eredivisie Live Pick EVS for Workflow, Infrastructure

EVS (Booth SL2416) systems have been selected by Canadian French-language public television network Télé-Québec and Dutch subscription channel Eredivisie Live.

Télé-Québec has implemented a fast-turnaround studio production workflow from EVS. The flexible new workflow for three studios that Télé-Québec rents to external clients enables it to maximize the use of its studios while reducing costs. The workflow is being used for a variety of productions, including public-affairs programming, children’s programming, and game shows.

Télé-Québec has equipped each studio with an identical EVS workflow based on the XT series server. The studios are interconnected through EVS’s centralized media-sharing network, enabling them to share clips for shows produced at multiple studios. The fully file-based workflow eliminates the cost of tapes and requires minimal maintenance and management by Télé-Québec staff.

Each studio has a six-channel XT server for ingesting all ISO camera feeds from the studios, with native support for multiple codecs. The IPDirector video-production–management suite provides flexibility and powerful asset-management capabilities. Its IPEdit timeline-editing module enables Télé-Québec to edit footage as it’s ingested, reducing turnaround times.

XStore media storage provides a single, easily managed nearline-storage system, eliminating the need for Télé-Québec to catalog, store, and manage numerous external drives. XStore’s transcoding capabilities also enable codecs to be changed faster than real time without needing to create low-resolution proxies.

Each studio also has XSquare and XTAccess software for managing transfers. In addition, EVS XFReader is used for viewing MXF or GXF files while the LSM remote controller is used for instant playout.

Eredivisie Live has chosen EVS solutions as the backbone to its new, integrated live-HD-video-production infrastructure. The deal, comprising EVS Sports solutions, will enable the broadcaster and rights owner to enrich and create a more interactive viewer experience from a centralized HD-enabled production hub connected via fiber to all venues. As a result, Eredivisie Live will gain efficiency and control over each camera angle from each match so that it can distribute premium content to TV, online, tablet, and mobile platforms in a flash.

Eredivisie Live launched in 2008 to broadcast live coverage of the Dutch top-tier football league and has since broadcast such competitions as the KNVB Cup, the FA Cup, and the UEFA Europa League.

EVS Sports will supply Eredivisie Live with a wide range of solutions to create an enhanced live-production workflow from ingest to playout.
