Zixi Integrates with Thomson Video Networks’ ViBE 6000 Contribution Platform

Thomson Video Networks and Zixi LLC announced today that the Thomson Video Networks ViBE CP6000 contribution platform now offers Zixi for transport of high-quality video over unmanaged IP links. The new offering makes available unprecedented levels of quality and reliability along with significant cost savings to content producers seeking professional-grade transport over unmanaged IP links and the public Internet.

At the 2013 NAB Show in Las Vegas, April 8-11, visitors to Thomson Video Networks (booth SU2611) and Zixi (booth SU10116) will see HD-quality video that has been sent around the globe by ViBE CP6000 devices running Zixi. Broadcast-quality high definition video will first be encoded with MPEG-4 4:2:0 8-bit at 6Mbit/s and transported from a ViBE CP6000 in France via Zixi Broadcaster cloud services to Singapore. There, another Zixi Broadcaster will pick up the stream and retransmit it to the companies’ demonstration areas on the NAB trade show floor. This demonstration neatly sums up both the state of the art and the opportunities for content producers to utilize unmanaged IP networks as part of their core acquisition applications. Example applications include on-demand contribution directly into broadcast centers and 24/7 backhaul for satellite and fiber feeds.

“We are just at the beginning of what ViBE CP6000 and Zixi can deliver for Internet video transport,” said Eric Gallier, vice president, marketing, of Thomson Video Networks. “We are continuing to more deeply integrate Zixi into ViBE CP6000 in order to make our contribution encoder the leading Internet-enabled contribution platform for content producers who require the highest possible quality while simultaneously taking advantage of the efficiencies of Internet video transport.”

Solutions for Internet Contribution Applications
ViBE CP6000 is designed to enable multi-format contribution applications for broadcasters, video carriers, network operators and telecoms. Offering up to eight HD channels in a single 1RU chassis saves space and lowers energy costs and, along with the ViBE CP6000 expansion options, makes the system future-proof. Thanks to flexible software licensing ViBE CP6000 supports a large range of formats and standards, from SD MPEG-2 4:2:0 up to HD MPEG-4 4:2:2 10-bit.

Zixi software is the only system available that guarantees quality of service for studio-quality video on the Internet. Using sophisticated techniques to harness UDP protocols for video, Zixi software running as an integrated ViBE CP6000 service eliminates the problems of lost packets, jitter and latency on unmanaged IP links. Zixi Broadcaster running in the cloud supports ViBE CP6000 with a unified video streaming hub for professional contribution and distribution. Zixi Broadcaster supports multi-point distribution, CDN ingest, live or on-demand streaming to computers, mobile devices and STBs for IPTV, and/or OTT applications.

“Zixi and ViBE CP6000 have been integrated as a direct response to customer requests,” said Steve Saleski, senior vice president, sales, Zixi LLC. “More and more, content producers are demanding high-end Internet video transport solutions not just because of cost savings but because they realize the world has changed and it is time to fully integrate the Internet into their core transmission applications. Zixi and Thomson Video Networks have partnered to deliver a high-end offering to meet this demand and it represents the very best capability available today.”
