NAB 2016: Joseph Electronics’ CEO Yohay Hahamy Touts New WaveShifter Line; Relishes Distributor Award
It’s another busy NAB Show for Joseph Electronics, where the company has debuted the JFS Waveshifter-4 and Waveshifter-8 series. The product uses optical wavelength-shifting technology to map the two fibers in standard HD cameras to wavelengths in the CDWM spectrum so that they can then be introduced into a CWDM mux.
“What this will enable one to do is take four or eight SMPTE cameras and ship the signal point to point down one fiber,” says Yohay Hahamy, President and CEO of Joseph Electronics.
The company offers the WaveShifter-4 and WaveShifter-8 both without power and the WaveShifter-4 in a version with power, which allows the ability to ship up to four SMPTE camera with the power of one fiber.
Hahamy also noted a significant maturation of the company’s popular Shadow Box family.
“If you have the SMPTE cable that is running from the CCU to the camera and you want more payload at the camera, you could do that riding on the same SMPTE line that you already ran,” he says. “You don’t need to run more cables.”
As for trends on the floor, Hahamy noted that the drive to do more with less is permeating throughout the broadcast industry and an increasing demand for products with more of a personal touch.
“Our customers are asking us for very specific, custom transport packages,” says Hahamy. “It’s working for us very well because we put the business together in a way where one is ok. I’m not doing a run of 50. One is ok.”
DirectOut, a German pro audio company, this week, honored Joseph Electronics by presenting the company with its Distributor of the Year Award. JE is DirectOut’s exclusive distributor to the United States.
Additional NAB Show Launches
This week also marked the debut of the Joseph Electronics JFS DFT-TOTE V32, which provides transport of up to 32 3G/HD/SD-SDI signals on as few as two fibers.
The DFT-TOTE V32, which is based on the DFT Series fiber-transport solutions, adds a weather-resistant enclosure, internal dual AC power supplies, and battery backup as standard.
Any pair of channels can be reconfigured in the field to suit the specific TX-RX requirements of any event. The V32 design can be configured in a tote or in a standard DFT-16 1-RU chassis system, both of which are ideal for rental and ENG applications.
The JFS DFT-TOTE E12 is a Gigabit Ethernet version of the DFT-Tote, providing 12 isolated paths of Gigabit Ethernet. In addition to network trunking, this solution can also be used for transporting AVB, RAVENNA/AES67, and Dante audio, as well as IP video signals.
