Ross Video Showcases IP I/O, New Features for Acuity Production Switchers, XPression Tessera Graphics Designer and Controller

Ross Video is previewing major additions to the Acuity production switcher and launching XPression Tessera, an addition to its XPression line of real-time motion-graphics systems, clip servers, workflow tools, and purpose-built software applications for news, elections, sports, entertainment, branding, touchscreen, social media, virtual sets and augmented reality.

All Acuity systems are being shown with version 4.0 software, which offers new operational features, including Split M/E, DVE Warps, Lighting Engine, and support for the new MultiProcessing Input card option. Also being shown is the new DoubleDown version of the Acuity Panel.

Ross_Video logo croppedWith version 4.0. an Acuity M/E can be set up as two M/Es with up to eight keyer assignments. The extensive configurability enabled by these features permits Acuity to fit into an even greater number of production environments and workflows. A fully loaded 8M/E machine can now be configured as a massive 16M/E system — or, of course a full 4M/E UHD (4K) switcher. And new warp effects and lighting engines enable even more sophisticated looks.

In a collaborative effort with Evertz, Acuity can now be equipped with IP (10G) I/O signal management. The new Acuity IPBlades work with ASPEN and SMPTE 2022-6 protocols and also provide standard SDI connections. The new IP I/O cards can coexist with standard Acuity I/O cards permitting hybrid IP/SDI system configurations.

This week, IP interconnect with Acuity will be demonstrated in the ASPEN Community booth, the Evertz booth, and, of course, in the Ross booth; all with IP signal management under control of the Evertz Magnum control system.

Acuity DoubleDown panels are designed to accelerate operation in live environments for those large I/O systems in sports and other fast-paced productions, where shift functions to access mapped sources are undesirable. DoubleDown bus models are a premium option that doubles the number of key/aux bus-assignment buttons for every M/E row. This greatly reduces or eliminates the need for shifts entirely.

XPression Tessera, a multi-display real-time graphics designer and controller, enables users to link together multiple XPression engines to create a scalable matrix of channels for seamless output of scenes across large or irregularly assembled display panels. Suitable for sports scoreboards, ribbon boards, and studio video walls, it can scale resolution with the addition of more XPression engines or “Tessera nodes.”

Frame-accurate, non-tearing recall of graphics and clips across any or all nodes is made possible with XPression’s new Multi-Engine Sync technology. More important, its unlimited scene layering on output is preserved across Tessera nodes for dynamic animations and transitions.

The Tessera Region Manager permits operators to divide scenes into regions and assign those regions to specific nodes. It allocates the XPression engines and channels to be used as render nodes. The XPression Project Server handles automatic one-click publishing of scene updates and resources to all nodes for ultimate efficiency.

“Tessera is a one of the most exciting additions to the XPression family in a while,” said Brian Olson, director, marketing product management, XPression. “The ability to scale real-time graphic outputs to virtually any size or number of displays is a game-changer. We’re no longer limited by the horsepower of a single graphics engine. Users can simply add more XPressions to scale up to larger and larger canvases.”
