Cinedeck expands RX capabilities

Cinedeck has expanded the deployment capabilities of its Cinedeck RX, record monitoring and playback system, for broadcasters and mobile OB operators, with the release of Cinedeck RX v3.1. This new – and happily free – upgrade extends Cinedeck RX’s native, multi-codec support to include popular native HD camera formats and enables RS-422 remote control via a range of third-party devices.

Aimed at the needs of broadcast and mobile OB customers, Cinedeck RX v3.1 now supports the record/playback of footage from popular Sony and Panasonic HD cameras. It can record and output in the native format of each camera (Sony XDCam 50 and XDCam EX 35, and Panasonic AVC-Intra class 50 and 100), or to a range of Avid and Apple editorial standards – including Avid DNxHD (wrapped as MXF OP-Atom or QuickTime), JFIF for proxies, and all Apple ProRes codec formats, including 4444, CineForm and uncompressed 444 (10-bit) or 422 (8- or 10-bit). This allows broadcasters to edit and get to air faster by eliminating time-consuming transcoding processes.

Cinedeck RX v3.1 also ushers in remote control of common functions including Record, Pause, Stop and Play, via RS-422 VTR/DDR protocols, including Sony, Odetics and Grass Valley AMP hooked-up with traditional broadcast devices. The upgrade additionally supports several third-party control devices via USB connection including, P.I. Engineering’s X-keys XK-12+Jog & Shuttle, Logitech’s Professional Presenter R800, as well as USB keyboard hotkeys.

Cinedeck will also ship, Cinedeck Controller, a TCP/IP based application running on a Windows workstation. This free-of-charge application enables multiple Cinedeck RX systems to be managed from any PC, or via a browser, with no additional hardware requirements. Cinedeck Controller will drive up to 24 channels (across 12 Cinedeck RX systems) from a single interface. File management is either by local touchscreen operation or via a remote administrator station. The ability to remotely Record, Playback, Fast Forward and Rewind multiple Cinedeck RX units in sync makes the controller application a centralized point of control and management for any facility or OB setting.

“Cinedeck RX v3.1 delivers a range of additional features that our customers in broadcast and mobile OB operation have requested,” said Charles Dautremont, CEO of Cinedeck LLC. “Cinedeck RX already has the greatest codec versatility of any recorder currently available, and the additional support of both XD-Cam and AVC-Intra codecs broadens the appeal of the product to broadcasters who are standardized on these HD codecs and formats. By adding support for third-party jog/shuttle controllers, Cinedeck RX becomes an even more flexible and versatile record, monitoring and playback tool for broad range of broadcast, sports music, theatrical and entertainment events.”
