BBC Sport and Sky Sports to battle it out for TV BAFTA

BBC Sport and Sky Sports will face off in the 2019 BAFTA Television Awards sport category with the corporation’s football, rugby and Winter Olympics coverage up against the satellite broadcaster’s cricket output.

BBC Sport is nominated three times, for Scotland against England in the 2018 Six Nations as well as the Winter Olympics and the World Cup quarter-final between England and Sweden.

Sky Sports is up for the award for its coverage of former England cricketer Alastair Cook’s final test match, a game between England and India at the Oval that saw Cook hit a hundred in what was his final innings.

The 2018 sport BAFTA was won by ITV Sport for its Grand National coverage.

In the BAFTA Television Craft Awards, Alan Smith and Mark Roalfe have been nominated in the Title and Graphics Identity category for their work on the 2018 Winter Olympics (BBC Sport, Nexus Studios and Y&R for BBC1).

The 2019 Virgin Media BAFTA Television Awards and  Television Craft Awards reward the very best in television craft and television programmes broadcast in the UK in 2018.

The BAFTA Television Awards ceremony will be held at the Royal Festival Hall in London on Sunday 12 May. The BAFTA Television Craft Awards take place two weeks earlier on Sunday 28 April at The Brewery, London.
