BBC Studios and Post Production announces rebranding

BBC Studios and Post Production, a commercial subsidiary of the BBC and leading provider of studios and post production facilities, has today announced that it has rebranded and will now be called BBC Studioworks. As well as a new name, the rebrand includes a new visual identity, an enhanced website and a refreshed marketing and business development approach focusing on customer needs.

These changes form part of the company’s growth strategy and are designed to increase market impact, modernise the company’s profile, and distinguish its market proposition.

BBC Studioworks has spent considerable time examining where the television production market is heading and what is required from a studios and post production provider. This insight was used to help shape the company’s strategic priorities and brand direction.

Managing director of BBC Studioworks, David Conway, said: “Quite some time ago we moved away from acting simply as a facilities and crewing provider. Productions now expect us to be a value-adding, fully collaborative partner who understands their vision and is able to bring it to life. We discovered that our customers like working with us because of our ‘make it happen’ attitude, so we have made this concept central to our brand – the belief that ‘everything is possible’. From implementing 24-hour post-production work flows to accommodating a rotating climbing wall in studio, we can cite countless examples of how we have worked with productions to make impossible things, possible!

“Central to this, productions want to be confident that their shows are being made within the best spaces, are equipped with the right technology, and operated by the most talented and dedicated people in the industry. These are the things that BBC Studioworks will focus on being ‘famous’ for.”

The rebrand has been timed to coincide with a number of other corporate initiatives, including a business refocusing exercise and various growth strategies. In this regard, BBC Studioworks is on track to expand its operations when it reintroduces Television Centre studios 1, 2 and 3 to the market in Spring 2017. This revamped site will complement its offering in Elstree and provide customers with a greater choice of studio and post production space. The new brand will play a key role in facilitating this strategy as it looks to appeal to broadcasters and independent production companies across all genres. Television Centre’s studios will be open for bookings from later this year.

Conway said: “Our Television Centre studios project is building momentum by the day. We’re looking forward to reopening these in-demand studios under the new banner of BBC Studioworks and a refreshed ethos of making the impossible happen for our customers.”

Speaking of the studios market in London, Conway said: “While there has been some movement in studio capacity in the London area over recent years, and a net increase forecast for the coming years, Television Centre offers something unique. The market appetite for these studios is strong due to their ideal location and blend of unrivalled heritage with the latest technologies. Our new BBC Studioworks brand is one part of staying on top of our game so that we can continue attracting and retaining the best shows in British television.”
