Cerberus Tech launches live IP video switching application

Cerberus Tech has launched IO, a software-based live IP video switching application.

Operating point-to-point, or point-to-multipoint, the IP broadcast application allows for seamless switching between RTP, UDP, RIST, SRT, RTMP and HLS delivery protocols. It can be scaled to unlimited outputs and used within a device, data centre or cloud environment.

The software utilises industry-standard IP methods for secure, reliable open delivery, enabling automatic switching between open video transport stream protocols, for in/out video and audio contribution and distribution. This allows users to seamlessly convert on-premises video traffic to cloud-facing protocols.

IO was built using the application tool Docker, which accelerates development workflows with an integrated pipeline and consolidated application components. IO defines the environment in which the software runs, without limiting the user to specific operating systems or hardware. This allows for greater flexibility for users to deliver content to partner services, in any format including remote production, channel partners, broadcasters and CDNs.

Brad Carter, chief technology officer at Cerberus Tech, commented: “Changing technology developments need flexibility. At Cerberus Tech we recognise the importance of not being tied to a single approach. IO allows customers to respond cost-effectively to technology developments and take advantage of emerging protocols and standards. This adaptable switching platform is the perfectly shaped jigsaw piece in the delivery chain.”

Compatible with any other device using the same standards, IO offers interoperability without the need for proprietary software. It can be installed as a container on hardware, virtual machine or cloud environments, as well as behind organisational firewalls.
