Chyron has announced Virtual Placement 8.1, the latest release of its live sports virtual graphics platform. Built to help broadcasters operate with greater confidence under live conditions, Virtual Placement 8.1 introduces workflow and graphics enhancements designed to make production more flexible, reliable, and efficient. The release focuses on smarter live workflows, stronger downstream reliability, broader line tracking stabilisation, and a more integrated Prime graphics experience within the platform.
With this release, operators are said to gain greater control over chroma keying during live play, a new program-to-isolated camera comparison workflow for lower-latency calibrated feeds, expanded line tracking stabilisation across more sports and venues, and smoother access to advanced Prime graphics tools directly within Virtual Placement. Together, these updates help customers adapt faster on air, maintain cleaner and more stable virtual graphics, and streamline live production workflows.

Virtual Placement 8.1 enhances the automatic chroma keyer with new runtime flexibility. Operators can now switch between manual and automatic chroma keying during live production, making it easier to adapt to changes in sunlight, shadows, and field conditions without interrupting the workflow. Performance has also been improved when using the auto keyer across multiple cameras, helping teams maintain cleaner and more consistent results throughout the broadcast.
This release also introduces a new program-to-isolated camera comparison workflow that supports Virtual Placement as a downstream solution. The workflow reduces delay and helps ensure the correct calibration is loaded when a camera goes to air, giving operators a more dependable fail-safe process at the moment a feed becomes live. The first phase supports one isolated feed and lays the foundation for future workflow expansion, including multi-ISO support and more precise advert logging.
Building on proven stabilisation work, Virtual Placement 8.1 expands line tracking stabilisation to additional sports, improving the consistency of tracked lines and virtual elements across varying venues, camera positions, and production environments. This is especially valuable for workflows such as virtual mat replacement, where graphic stability is essential to delivering a clean, believable on-air result. The update extends the benefit of VP’s stabilisation work beyond earlier basketball-focused efforts and helps broadcasters maintain confidence as they scale virtual graphics across more sports and locations.
Virtual Placement 8.1 continues to strengthen embedded Prime integration, making advanced graphics workflows more polished and more practical inside VP. Operators can work with advanced animation, data-driven graphics, 3D positioning, and object-level chroma keying directly within the platform, reducing the need to move between systems or add workflow complexity. Creative Services-built projects for MLB, NFL, and NBA help customers get started faster in key sports, while flexible templates support adaptation across many other sports and demo workflows. This builds on Virtual Placement’s established Prime integration, which already enables users to access and update Prime graphics from within VP on the same machine.
