DAZN snaps up rights to MLS and the Copa del Rey

DAZN, the live and on-demand sports streaming service, has picked up the broadcast TV rights to Major League Soccer (MLS) in six international markets.

Starting with immediate effect, DAZN will screen MLS exclusively in Germany, Austria, Switzerland, Italy and Spain, where it has the right to show every match. The media rights have also been awarded non-exclusively for DAZN in Brazil. The agreement covers four seasons, starting from 2019 until 2022.

Jacopo Tonoli, chief commercial officer, DAZN, said: “MLS has a growing global audience and this agreement means we will continue to build that fandom around the world. Our multi-sport OTT proposition puts fans first, so for one affordable monthly fee, and no long-term contract, they can enjoy a huge variety of the best sport on any device, anywhere.”

DAZN has also secured exclusive rights for this year’s Copa del Rey final featuring Barcelona versus Valencia. The match will be shown in Germany Austria, Switzerland and Japan, with non-exclusive rights for Italy.

DAZN is now available in nine markets across four continents.
