De Buhr joins DAZN from Twitter to lead DACH streaming business
Live and on demand sport streaming service DAZN has appointed Thomas de Buhr to lead the business in Germany, Austria and Switzerland (DACH). De Buhr, the former MD of Twitter in Germany joins DAZN as Executive Vice President Marketing and Commercial in a newly created role to lead its next phase of growth in what is set to be a pivotal year for one of its most important markets.
De Buhr will be responsible for leading DAZN’s marketing and commercial teams in DACH, with key areas of focus including driving brand awareness and the delivery of strategic partnerships. The appointment comes ahead of the biggest year yet for the company, which will broadcast both the UEFA Champions League and UEFA Europa League in the region for the first time next season, in a three-year deal.
De Buhr joins DAZN after successful tenures at tech giants Twitter and Google, having grown both user numbers and revenue at the former. Before this, de Buhr held a leadership positions at ProSiebenSat.1, RTL Group and Mars Inc. He is the latest in a succession of high profile executive appointments at both DAZN and Perform Group. Last month, former ESPN President John Skipper joined Perform as Executive Chairman ahead of the company’s US launch this summer.
An avid Bayern Munich fan, de Buhr’s personal interest in sport and professional success in tech and broadcasting makes him ideally suited to shape and grow DAZN’s burgeoning presence in DACH. As a core member of the global leadership team, de Buhr will report into DAZN CEO James Rushton.
