DPP to launch key initiatives at IBC Amsterdam

At this year’s IBC, the Digital Production Partnership (DPP) will be sharing important new international initiatives in mastering, metadata exchange and cybersecurity through a series of demonstrations and conference sessions during the Amsterdam show.

Demonstrations:
IMF For Broadcast & Online
Fri 15th – Sun 17th Sept – bespoke demos on request, on the Prime Focus Technologies stand (7.B12)
The DPP will show how IMF for Broadcast & Online will transform the mastering process with the first Proof of Concept presentations in partnership with DPP Member, Prime Focus Technologies.

As the international high-end TV market continues to expand, with the need for more and more programme versions, it is becoming essential to find ways that producers and distributors can exchange high volumes of high quality assets efficiently and affordably.

These demonstrations will detail the progress of the DPP’s IMF work to date, explain the key features of IMF for Broadcast and Online, and showcase emerging IMF tools. The final specification is due to be published by NAB 2018.

Contact Claire Austin ([email protected]) to arrange a demonstration.

News Exchange
Fri 15th – Tue 19th Sept – on the hour, on the Sony stand (13.A10)
The search for standardised and easy ways of exchanging content metadata has been a Holy Grail of the media industry for many years. The DPP and its member companies have ended that search by making metadata sharing simple for newsgathering.

The DPP and Sony will demonstrate a Proof of Concept, using an implementation of the existing IPTC NewsML-G2 standard, to show how metadata is passed through a news production workflow, and illustrate interoperability amongst multiple vendor systems.

The demonstration builds on the DPP’s work with broadcaster and news agency representatives to define and agree minimum metadata requirements. Once implemented in newsgathering, this metadata exchange methodology could quickly evolve into other content environments.

Conference Sessions:

Safety in Numbers: Collaborating against Cyber Attacks
Friday 15th Sept – 1150 – 1300, IBC Forum
This session, chaired by DPP MD, Mark Harrison, will feature leading speakers from across the supply chain as they give real, practical insight into how collaboration can make the media industry safer from attack.

Attendees will also be the first to hear the announcement of the DPP’s important new Committed to Security Programme.

Mastering for Broadcast – What does IMF offer us?
Sun 17th Sept – 13:30 – 14:30, SMPTE & DPP Event, Room D304, Supported by the IET’s Multimedia Communications Network
Leading MXF authority, Bruce Devlin, will explain what IMF is, and how it works, joining panelists Clyde Smith (NABA), Bill Brown (ITV), Michael Koetter (Turner) and the DPP’s Andy Wilson to discuss why mastering now matters more than ever for broadcasters.

Drinks Reception:

Sun 17th Sept 16:30 – 18:00, on the Qvest Media stand (3.B40)

The DPP is hosting a drinks reception with DPP Member company, Qvest Media, giving IBC attendees an opportunity to meet DPP representatives and network with DPP Members. To attend, register here.
