Ecreso sells 60-plus FM transmitters to SWR

Ecreso, the transmitter arm within the WorldCast Systems group, has announced the sale of over 60 low power FM transmitters to SWR (Sudwestrundfunk), one of the major public broadcasters in Germany.

The Ecreso transmitters provided included both 20W and 100W power levels and were deployed across 25 sites in the states of Baden-Württemburg and Rheinland-Pfalz. The first set of 27 transmitters was deployed in November 2010 with the remainder rolled-out in late 2012.

The selection of equipment for this large-scale transmitter replacement project was carried out by means of an EU-wide tender which not only considered price but also included extensive testing to ensure that the equipment met the stringent technical criteria stipulated by the ARD/IRT. Ecreso was represented in the tender by WorldCast Systems’ German distributor, MediaLantic, which had previously supplied APT systems to SWR.

Peter König, the executive in charge of Transmitter technology and site planning, comments: “Overall, we have found the Ecreso FM transmitters very easy to install and very reliable in operation. We had just one service issue that arose during installation of one transmitter; the rest of the deployment was flawlessly simple and all the units have been operating without issue ever since. We truly have been able to install and forget.”
