Eleven Sports to continue in UK as Premier Sports picks up rights to Serie A
Eleven Sports is to continue its OTT sports streaming service in the UK until at least the end of the current football season after coming to an agreement that will see it relinquish its Serie A and Eredivisie coverage but retain rights to show La Liga.
In a statement, the company said that it had strategically chosen to focus on La Liga as it “drives real value for us in the UK and Ireland” and is a “property which we continue to have a valued partnership with in five markets globally.”
Eleven Sports added that it has the “intention of continuing beyond” the end of the current season with its La Liga agreement.
At the same time, Premier Sports has announced that is has secured the rights to Serie A from February 2019.
The broadcaster, which operates both the Premier Sports and Free Sports channels, will air a minimum of six games per round of matches until the end of the 2020-21 season.
Weekly highlights and preview shows are also planned with some games to be shown live on Free Sports.
Eleven Sports and Premier Sports have come to a cooperative agreement that will see the OTT service continue to broadcast Serie A matches non-exclusively in the UK until 25 February 2019. This is being done in order to “minimise disruption for fans” both companies said.
The price of a monthly subscription to Eleven Sports will be cut to £4.99 (€5.99 in Rep of Ireland) from 1 March 2019.
IMG manages the rights to Serie A and the Eredivisie.
