Extreme sports UHD boost as Insight TV links with Media Broadcast in Germany

Insight TV, claimed to be the world’s largest producer and broadcaster of adventure travel and extreme sports genres in unscripted 4K UHD, has revealed a major distribution deal with German DTT transmitter network operator Media Broadcast. The deal sees Insight TV’s HD channel distributed on Media Broadcast’s recently launched HbbTV service freenet TV connect, which is available over the DVB-T2 HD freenet TV platform.

A member of the freenet Group, Media Broadcast is Germany’s largest service provider for the broadcast and media industry. Its core business includes the planning, set-up and operation of multi-media transmission platforms for television and radio on a national and global basis using modern transmitter, fibre and satellite networks. Its freenet TV connect service comprises approx. 20 TV channels appearing alongside up to 40 DTT channels in the channel listing of the DVB-T2 HD reception device. As well as Insight TV, which adds a new factual HD channel to the portfolio, the channel line-up includes: Spiegel TV, CNN, France 24 and Euronews as well as regional and local channels.

“We have seen a major launch of our new freenet TV connect service within the freenet TV platform, which is reaching over a million households. Graeme Stanley, Commercial Director of Insight TV adds, “Insight TV is a major player in the HD and 4K UHD market and the success that we have demonstrated in the past twelve months is testament to that. We are delighted to be included as part of Media Broadcast’s new HbbTV offering and look forward to making further distribution announcements in the coming weeks.”

On the 30th June 2017, freenet expects to reach 1.7 to 2.2 million DVB-T2 HD devices in German households and more than 500,000 freenet TV customers.
