FITE TV selects Friend MTS to provide anti-piracy technology

Content and revenue protection specialist Friend MTS has been selected by digital combat sports platform FITE TV to provide security against streaming piracy for the forthcoming WBA and WBC title fight between Canelo Alvarez and Gennady Golovkin.

The boxing match will take place in the T-Mobile Arena in Las Vegas, USA, on September 15, 2018, and it will air on a variety of pay TV platforms.

Friend MTS will be protecting FITE’s content with a combination of global channel monitoring and take down services. This monitoring will scan the internet globally for streaming piracy, across illicit IPTV devices, mobile apps, websites and social media.

Michael Weber, COO at FITE, said: “This rematch, after a draw in September 2017, will make a very compelling title fight, and we’ll be taking security very seriously to protect our content from piracy. We’ll be taking action during the event, capturing forensic information about pirate networks, and reserving the right to take legal action against any perpetrators of content theft.”

Neil Sharpe, director product marketing at Friend MTS, added: “With large scale, live sporting events like pay-per-view boxing, it’s imperative to take action very quickly against streaming piracy to protect revenues. We’ll be monitoring the content worldwide for FITE TV and identifying any illegal redistribution within seconds.”

Friend MTS’ service portfolio for premium sports and entertainment content includes automated, global channel monitoring using fingerprint-based content recognition. This managed monitoring service integrates tightly with the company’s ASiD watermarking.
