Former Spotify MD joins DAZN Italy

DAZN, the live and on-demand streaming service, has appointed former Spotify exec Veronica Diquattro to lead its business in Italy.

Diquattro joins in the role of Executive Vice President, Revenue and has been tasked with establishing “DAZN as one of the country’s leading sports broadcasters.”

At Spotify, Diquattro was Managing Director, Southern and Eastern Europe, responsible for driving its strategic direction and growth in 16 countries.

James Rushton, the CEO of DAZN, said: “We are thrilled to welcome Veronica to lead our burgeoning sport streaming business in Italy for what will be a breakout year as we rapidly expand there and around the world. We’re leading the charge to give sports fans a better and fairer way to watch their favourite teams and stars on any device, doing for sport what Spotify has done for music, so Veronica’s experience will be invaluable. She is hugely talented and a great cultural fit for DAZN, with a shared vision for doing things differently. Veronica will play a crucial role in shaping the next chapter of our growth story.”

DAZN recently secured exclusive multi-platform broadcast rights for the top two football leagues in Italy, Serie A and Serie B.  Starting from 2018/19 and lasting for three seasons, DAZN will show 114 Serie A matches and 472 Serie B matches per season.

Commenting on her appointment Diquattro said: “DAZN is turning the sport broadcasting business on its head by putting fans in control of what, when, how and where they watch with an affordable and accessible service tailor-made for today’s modern viewing habits. The premium sport content and intuitive best-in-class technology will appeal to both current and potential sport subscribers; Italian fans are ready for a new and dynamic way to watch and I’m delighted to be heading up the team to lead the change.”

Before being appointed MD of Spotify in Southern and Eastern Europe, Diquattro was the company’s Director of Markets Strategy and Operations and oversaw the successful launch of Spotify in Italy. Prior to joining the music streaming service, she worked at Google, L’Oréal, BMW and Ferrari.
