Globo standardises on Elemental Technologies for multi-platform video delivery

Elemental Technologies has announced that Globo, a leading commercial broadcaster in Brazil, is using Elemental video processing as the core video-on-demand (VOD) and live processing engine for the Globo Play over-the-top TV (OTT) service.

“As Brazil’s leading broadcaster, video quality is critical to everything we do. For more than four years, Elemental software-based solutions have helped us meet exacting standards,” said Marcelo Souza, director, digital media technology for TV Globo. “Our new Globo Play service is a hit with viewers and is the type of success we want to repeat many times. To achieve this, we need a high-quality, scalable video infrastructure that adapts quickly. So we turned to Elemental.”

Within a fully virtualised environment, Globo can elastically scale instances of Elemental Server file-based video processing using Elemental Conductor video management. This includes the ability to transcode MXF files and to support real-time live-to-VOD workflows. Elemental provides Globo advanced quality management controls through a single, seamless user interface. Along with virtualized Elemental Conductor and Elemental Server systems, standalone Elemental Live systems provide linear content to the multi-platform servers and the content delivery network (CDN) for delivery to consumers. Elemental video architecture enables Globo Play to add immersive functionality like second screen synchronisation and personalized services to its offerings.

“We are excited to take our work with Globo to the next level and to support the high level of quality and innovation that have become the hallmark of this media leader,” said Dan Marshall, senior vice president of worldwide sales for Elemental. “Elemental’s ability to scale and to virtualise helps Globo accelerate its technology innovation and delight their viewers.”
