Gravity Media appoints Steve Kruger as the new executive director of technology

Gravity Media, the global provider of complex live media facilities and production services, continues its senior team expansion by announcing the key appointment of Steve Kruger as its new Executive Director – Technology, whilst Pete Newton is promoted to the new role as Executive Director – Media Services & Facilities.

Steve Kruger joins Gravity Media fresh from ITV Studios Entertainment where he was Head of Technology. In his new role, he will be based in the UK, heading up Gravity Media’s technical function across the global operation. Steve’s recent career highlights include designing and overseeing the implantation of the remote outside broadcast and post facilities for ITV’s Love Island during challenging Covid conditions.

Prior to ITV, Steve worked at BBC Studios – Post Production, Cutting Edge Post UK and Cutting Edge Australia where Steve provided a useful and varied skillset encompassing OB, studios and post-production. His creative and technical highlight projects also became award winners as he was part of the 2021 BAFTA-winning team for his work on I’m a Celebrity Get Me Out of Here in Wales and was BAFTA Nominated in 2020 for the work on Love Island.

Over the past 23 years Steve has worked on some of the UK’s most ambitious TV productions across various genres: Reality (I’m a Celebrity Get Me Out of Here, Hell’s Kitchen, Love Island), Sport (London Olympics) and delivered live TV from some very unusual locations (Saturday Night Takeaway live from a Cruise ship, I’m a Celebrity US in Costa Rica, Survival of the fittest in remote South Africa).

In addition, his appointment will further allow Gravity Media to focus on their Gravity Media workflows and post-production techniques, bringing effective solutions to the end user, allowing us to guarantee the best technical delivery to market.

Newton’s new expanded Gravity Media role of Executive Director – Media Services & Facilities means he will now be responsible for focusing on the operational business growth, working towards the strategic expansion of all global business units supported by all assets. Working closely with Steve, together they will lead on developing all technical solutions. They will ensure that the latest in state of the art technology underpins and enables all content creators to tell their best stories.

Having worked with Gravity Media since he joined Gearhouse Broadcast in the UK, back in October 1998 – Pete has been Head of Projects Engineering in the UK before being appointed as Technical Manager in January 2016 and later Technical Director in Jan 2018. A year later Pete was appointed to his role as Technical & Operations Director of Gravity Media.

Pete will be leading large, complex projects and will be targeting key clients in-line with the business strategy, developing a pipeline of opportunities to support Gravity Media’s growth. Pete will also prioritise building a strong external and internal network to promote Gravity Media’s services and the value provided.

“Technology underpins everything that Gravity Media does and ensures the company remains at the forefront of production, post-production and creative solutions,” says says Kruger. “Working closely with John Newton, Eamonn Dowdall, Pete Newton, Steve Norris, and the rest of our extremely talented team, my new role will ensure Gravity Media can continue to deliver the best service and technical support to every client and project
