IBC 2024: Brainstorm partners with XD motion for virtual production
At IBC 2024, Brainstorm continues its partnership with XD motion, a company specialising in aerial and broadcasting robotic and automation technology. With a focus on innovation and quality, XD motion’s systems will be powering the company’s virtual-production demonstration. The collaboration is set to revolutionise the possibilities of virtual production by achieving unparalleled levels of accuracy for creating virtual content in both LED-based XR and chroma-set environments.
Brainstorm is showcasing an impressive virtual-production demonstration, powered by its flagship solution InfinitySet in combination with XD motion’s state-of-the-art systems: ARCAM 10 and ARCAM 20, advanced robotic systems designed for intricate, dynamic shots in virtual production, and IOBOT, an automation tool that enhances operational efficiency and creative control. The demonstration seamlessly blends a chroma screen with a large LED volume to create an interactive broadcast environment, featuring talent tele-transportation, augmented-reality (AR) graphics, in-context data, and a large interactive touchscreen that the presenter will use to control the show.
By synchronizing the two ARCAM robotics, the cameras’ perspectives will be identical, resulting in highly realistic virtual talent integration with accurate perspectives and seamless transitions. The integration leverages the FreeD protocol for tracking data and allows direct control of the ARCAM systems from InfinitySet, thanks to XD motion’s API. InfinitySet acts as a hub of technologies, orchestrating both robotic and virtual cameras, providing an unparalleled level of flexibility and storytelling power for content creators.
“This partnership with Brainstorm is redefining the future of virtual production,” says Andrew Gordon, chief commercial officer, XD motion. “By integrating our cutting-edge robotics and automation systems with their real-time 3D graphics, we’re delivering a comprehensive, fully automated solution that unlocks endless creative possibilities. Together, we’re empowering broadcasters to push the boundaries of what’s achievable, with precision, speed, and efficiency at the core of every project.”
Brainstorm COO/Engineering Director Héctor Viguer adds, “We are thrilled to join forces with XD motion to bring this new level of integration to content creators. The synergy between our companies allowed us to quickly develop and showcase this innovative solution, opening doors for highly precise and advanced virtual production.”
Demonstrations showcase how integration of Brainstorm’s real-time 3D graphics with XD motion’s cutting-edge technology can deliver unparalleled broadcasting experiences. A key highlight of the presentation will be the teleportation of talent between two locations, alongside the advanced automation and robotic systems in action. The demo offers a glimpse into the future of virtual production and broadcast innovation.
