Open Broadcast Systems will be presenting a range of innovations at IBC2025. This includes extremely low latency encoding and decoding, native support for uncompressed IP formats, and its 5G Flyaway solution, which brings broadcast quality and compatibility to the world of cellular bonding.
The company will demonstrate its encoders and decoders, which support high-quality, low-latency video contribution for sports, linear channels and news. With a latency as low as 60 milliseconds, these products have some of the lowest latency in the market. This is partly because all its SDI cards are built in house to minimise latency.
Open Broadcast is also announcing that its decoders are being used by Asia’s linear and digital sports service, SPOTV as part of its international transition from satellite to IP workflow. The decoders were shipped directly to affiliates across Asia as part of a turnkey solution for the delivery of high-quality, low-latency broadcast services. The project was executed in partnership with Zixi. Open Broadcast Systems’ decoders are certified on Zen Master, which SPOTV leverages for its virtually managed MCR, allowing the broadcaster to distribute live video over IP with ultra-low latency, overcoming issues such as packet loss and signal drops. The initiative will also allow SPOTV to deliver different versions of content to different regions using edge distribution, ensuring that content is closer to the viewers.
Also highlighted on the stand will be its 5G Flyaway, the first cellular bonding solution built around the needs of sports broadcasters and linear channel backup. It brings professional broadcast encoding and interoperable video transport to the world of cellular bonding, enabling broadcasters to maintain the highest standards over 5G.
Kieran Kunhya, CEO, Open Broadcast Systems, said: “As broadcasters work to ensure that their operations are more agile and cost-effective, many are moving from satellite to IP infrastructure, taking advantage of cloud-based services. Our encoders and decoders offer a highly flexible solution that is available in both software and hardware options that deliver quality, low latency and cost-efficiency with no compromises.”
