Ikegami 8K camera first at Yankee Stadium

Ikegami 8K cameras will be used by NHK at a landmark event on July 17 at Yankee Stadium. The matchup, between Major League Baseball’s (MLB) Seattle Mariners and New York Yankees, will stand as the first MLB game ever to be recorded in 8K. Six Ikegami 8K cameras will be deployed throughout Yankee Stadium for the game, all of which will be set up by the Japanese public broadcasting station NHK.

While the game will not be broadcast in 8K, members of the media will have the opportunity to view the production on 8K monitors which will be onsite in a special suite.

The Yankee game is following a successful use of Ikegami 8K cameras at the FIFA Women’s World Cup Canada 2015 earlier this summer.

Ikegami introduced the world’s first generation 8K UHDTV camera with NHK in 2002. After that, the second generation (2004) and the third generation (2010) were introduced, representing the most advanced technology for the 8K format.

In 2015, Ikegami evolved 8K production even further with its fourth generation UHDTV camera, the SHK-810 8K. The SHK-810 8K stands as the world’s first hand-held 8K ultra HD camera system and employs a single 33 million-pixel Super 35 CMOS sensor, achieving 4,000TVL horizontal and vertical resolution. The SHK-810 is 90% smaller in size and weight compared with the first generation camera, and operability has been significantly improved.
