Italian Rai Way selects Net Insight media transport for video contribution network

Italian Rai Way, the sole provider of network services to the public broadcasting company Radiotelevisione Italiana (RAI), has selected NetInsight’s media transport solution as part of a project to build a national fiber contribution network over IP/MPLS.

Rai Way’s network will span 22 sites, with any-to-any contribution of video in a nationwide infrastructure, connecting 17 regional television sites with five central sites, two main sites in Rome, Teulada and Saxa Rubra and Milan, Turin and Naples. Net Insight’s solution (Service Aware Media Network or SAMN) will be used to transport all video services, including compressed video over JPEG2000, offering a fully redundant solution.

The order is valued at around EUR 1.7 million and delivery is expected to take place during the last quarter of 2014 and during the first quarter of 2015. The contract has been awarded in partnership with Diem Technologies, Net Insight’s distributor and systems integration partner. The tender has been won by Sirti SpA as the main contractor.
