ITV to show live LaLiga matches for free
LaLiga has reached an agreement with UK broadcaster ITV that will see weekly highlights and a live fixture from each matchday shown on the free-to-air channel ITV4.
The agreement started with Sunday’s game between Levante and Real Madrid (24 February 2019).
The move follows another UK and Ireland deal, announced last week, that gives Premier Sports the rights to show four live games per round across Premier Sports 1 and 2 plus the weekly magazine programmes LaLiga World and the LaLiga Show and a weekly highlights show.
Javier Tebas, LaLiga President, said: “We are delighted to welcome Premier Sports and ITV Sport to our broadcaster stable in the UK and Ireland which already includes Eleven Sports. We are reaching the exciting conclusion to the season and millions of viewers will be able to enjoy the best teams and players in the world, as well as the passion and drama of LaLiga.”
Melcior Soler, LaLiga Audiovisual Department Director added: “Few countries have an appetite for football like the UK and Ireland and we are happy to provide multiple forms of access to the best league in the world, including LaLiga’s first agreement to show free-to-air matches in the United Kingdom. This is part of our continued commitment to our fans to make LaLiga available in as many ways as possible.”
Eleven Sports has retained its rights deal for LaLiga and will continue to show every match live as well as 24/7 content and programming from LaLigaTV.
YouTube is the official broadcast partner for LaLiga 1|2|3, showing live content from Spain’s second division to over 150 countries worldwide, including the UK and Ireland.
