Linear Acoustic’s UPMAX v4 Surroundfield controller on hand in Sochi for NBC

Linear Acoustic provided the UPMAX v4 to NBC Olympics during its production of the 2014 Olympic Winter Games in Sochi.

LinearAcousticOver 40 UPMAX v4 units, along with remote controls, have been delivered for the Sochi Games. Linear Acoustic is also providing multiple instances of the award winning UPMAX II technology as a special plug-in for use in the NLE systems by NBC Olympics.

“We are honored to provide the new UPMAX v4 to NBC Olympics for their coverage of the Sochi Winter Games,” says Tim Carroll, Chief Technology Officer, The Telos Alliance, and founder of Linear Acoustic. “Linear Acoustic has been a part of delivering compelling 5.1-channel audio to NBC’s viewers of the Olympics since the Beijing Games in 2008, and we are excited to be a part of that experience again in Sochi.”

“We are pleased to be working once again with Linear Acoustic,” said Karl Malone, Director of Sound Design, NBC Olympics. “The new UPMAX v4 is an integral component in our effort to maximize 5.1 content for the viewer. Its low latency in combination with its small rack footprint makes the v4 an invaluable tool in our NBC Olympics’ venue remote trucks as well as the International Broadcast Center.”

Drawing upon the success of its predecessors in the UPMAX line, the compact, lightweight, and rugged UPMAX v4 produces stunning 5.1-channel audio from two-channel sources. With its very low latency, it is perfectly suited for OB trucks and post production facilities.

Offering AES and auto-sensing HD/SD-SDI I/O, the UPMAX v4 combines the renowned UPMAX upmixing/downmixing algorithm with AutoMAX® auto-detection for seamless transitions between stereo and native surround input sources, and produces an upmix that is completely downmix compatible.

The UPMAX v4 comes standard with a built-in ITU loudness meter, dual redundant power supplies, internal relay bypass, SNMP monitoring, and 8 channels of analog outputs for monitoring purposes.

Linear Acoustic Director of Technology, Larry Schindel, will be attending the games as the on-site technical support and consultant for Linear Acoustic products and technologies.
