LYON Video deploys 12 Grass Valley LDX cameras

Mobile production company LYON Video has deployed 12 Grass Valley LDX WorldCam camera systems for use in its LYON12 mobile production truck, which broadcasts various sporting events for customers including ESPN, SPEED, and FOX Sports Network. In conjunction with an existing fleet of Grass Valley cameras, the new LDX units recently covered the conclusion of regular season play of NCAA men’s college basketball on ESPN as well as the 61st annual ‘12 hours of Sebring’ auto endurance race at Sebring (Florida) International Raceway.

LYON Video’s LYON12 is a 53-foot expandable truck that the Columbus, Ohio-based company designed with current technologies to be upgraded over time. The Grass Valley LDX WorldCam cameras are used in tandem with a powerful Grass Valley Kayenne Video Production Center switcher and are fed into a fiber network using Grass Valley’s 3G Transmission solutions to accommodate the long distances between the various venues and the truck.

Chad Snyder, account manager at LYON Video, comments: “The LDX WorldCam is easily the most versatile HD camera system we’ve ever used. The cameras operate on both fiber and triax cable, producing excellent picture quality with both infrastructures. Their superior image sensitivity eliminates the need for additional lighting, which we witnessed during night shoots at Sebring International Raceway, and their incredible operator features enable us to quickly adapt to different production situations. SPEED praised our new LDX fleet for the sharp, rich colors and ultra-low noise images we produced during the race, and when you get feedback like that, you know you have a winning solution.”
