Mediapro VAR experience earns CAF vote for Africa Cup of Nations

The African Football Confederation (CAF) has chosen Mediapro as the provider responsible for the Video Assistant Referee (VAR) service for the 2019 African Cup of Nations, the largest international tournament of African nations, kicking off later today in Egypt.

The 2019 edition will be the first African Cup of Nations with 24 teams and with video arbitration technology (VAR) from the quarterfinals stage. The service also includes a comprehensive training program delivered by the Mediapro crews with simulator and Offline VOR prior to the official VAR application.

The Mediapro Group is currently the official supplier of VAR for official league competitions in Spain, Portugal, Mexico, Chile and the United Arab Emirates, and provides services to CAF and FIBA. The group is also responsible for the video assistant referee technology for the Copa Libertadores, Copa Sudamericana, Recopa and Copa América 2019. Recently, it has also been chosen to supply VAR services to the Greek Superliga (football’s first division) and VAR service for the next five years together with Greek company In Digital.
