NAB 2019: Ikegami Exhibits New 4K, IP, HDR Products

Ikegami (Booth C7925) introduced several new 4K, IP & HDR solutions at the 2019 NAB Show.

Ikegami debuted the UHL-43 Multi-Purpose UHD/HD Digital Camera at the 2019 NAB Show. A one-piece UHD digital camera, the new UHL-43 employs the same 4K-native sensors as the UHK-430 and UHK-435 “Unicam XE” series cameras, while achieving the same performance.

Employing the same operational workflow and system structure as Ikegami’s UHK-430 and UHK-435 models, the UHL-43’s compact one-piece form factor makes it ideal for POV applications such as robotic studio production, sports, traffic and weather coverage, and video surveillance.

4K signal outputs available from the Ikegami UHL-43 include 12G-SDI and optional 3G-SDI Quad Link, allowing flexible system integration. The UHL-43 incorporates three 2/3-inch 8 megapixel CMOS sensors, each capable of capturing 4K-native 3840 x 2160 resolution images, and offering high sensitivity (F10 in 4K/60p) and very high signal-to-noise ratio. Unlike cameras using a single chip or pixel-offset technology, the three 4K-native CMOS sensors, and prism optics provide real UHD resolution, superior color reproduction and no color aliasing.

The UHL-43 provides an HLG (Hybrid Log Gamma) mode conforming to ITU-R BT.2100, which is an international standard for High Dynamic Range. HDR enables the UHL-43 to deliver superbly detailed picture quality across the full range of brightness levels from deep black to peak white. With its wide color gamut, the camera also captures rich color.
In addition to native 4K, the UHL-43 can deliver HD/3G-SDI signals for main output. This can be down-converted from the full 4K image or sourced as an HD cut-out HD from different sections of the 4K original. It has been designed to support 12G-SDI output interface as standard, ensuring flexible support for future trends in 4K system integration.

MoIPIn addition, Ikegami will debut its optional MoIP interface for the CCU-430 Camera Control Unit. With the growing use of Media-over-IP technology by broadcasters, the demand for IP interfaces is increasing worldwide. In response to agreement on SMPTE ST2110 as an international standard, Ikegami has developed this IP interface as an option for the CCU-430 camera control unit for the UHK-430 4K camera.

The Ikegami 4K MoIP system has a 25G optical interface which allows transmission of uncompressed video. It also supports the use of 10G on two ports. Redundancy can be implemented easily to ensure reliability. The system has four SFP slots.

Since many broadcast systems currently use a mix of SDI and MoIP, this optional interface delivers a pair of 12G/3G/1.5G SDI outputs as well as MoIP, providing flexibility for video system integration.

NAB will see the introduction of a 9:16 Cutout option for the UHK-430. This software option delivers a simultaneous 1080 x 1920 portrait cutout from the 3840 x 2160 image of the 4K camera. The orientation of the 9:16 output is optimum for vertically mounted LCD screens as well as smart phones held in vertical orientation.

Ikegami also introduced virtual control capabilities for its new and existing camera lines. VCP (Virtual Control Panel) is a software-based PC application providing operational control of multiple cameras. Users can customize the virtual control panel to include control of the functions required for the specific application. VMP (Virtual Master Panel) is another newly available application from Ikegami, providing centralized management of all cameras within the camera control network. VMP provides centralized monitoring of diagnostics for all cameras. Also easy comparison of settings for a set of cameras assigned to the same show, including setting change when needed. For large scale network control systems, panel assignment can be setup using VMP.

For monitors, Ikegami’s full HD HLM 60 Series of monitors will now benefit from a new HDR option debuting at NAB 2019. This includes the HLM-2460W 24-inch HDTV/SDTV full HD pixel multi-format LCD color monitor, HLM-1760WR 17-inch HDTV/SDTV full HD pixel multi-format LCD color monitor, and HLM-960WR nine-inch HDTV/SDTV full HD pixel multi-format LCD color monitor.
