NAB 2019: LiveU Matrix Content-Management Service To Be Deployed Across CBS News Bureaus and Affiliates

LiveU (Booth SU4810) and CBS Newspath have reached an agreement on a multi-year deal for LiveU Matrix to handle contribution and delivery of live content to 200+ CBS affiliates and seven global news bureaus. The LiveU Matrix content-curation service empowers newsroom managers to quickly and easily give hundreds of affiliates access to live feeds from LiveU units in the field and other sources without interruption, additional resources, or expensive fees.

LiveU Matrix content-curation service combines IP live video management and hardware-based HEVC encoding.

“LiveU Matrix complements CBS Newspath’s current use of LiveU HEVC acquisition technology, says LiveU COO/co-founder Avi Cohen. “[It gives] them a complete, end-to-end HEVC solution that delivers exceptional quality, reduces bandwidth requirements, and is managed through one simple interface.

Says Tim Gaughan, VP, news services, CBS News, “The change to LiveU Matrix is instrumental to our strategy of reducing our reliance on satellite and fiber technology, while affording us increased flexibility in our newsgathering and content sharing.

Adds Tom Fearing, director, technical operations, CBS Newspath, “HEVC was a prerequisite for this deployment. LiveU offered a one-stop-shop for hardware-based HEVC field encoding and IP video cloud management to distribute high-quality live feeds to our teams.”

Matrix, a dynamic cloud platform, makes it simple to curate content through one interface. Users can easily search, filter, preview, and distribute live feeds. See a live demonstration of the powerful newsroom tool including tagging and metadata insertion and the AI feature that allows broadcasters to search, identify, classify, and route objects and people at LiveU’s booth.

Fearing joins LiveU’s Chris Perry at the LiveU booth today at 3:45 p.m. PT to talk about the Matrix deployment. You can watch it live at https://www.facebook.com/LiveU.Fans.
