NAB 2023: Backlight to introduce updates to ftrack, iconik and Gem

At NAB 2023, media and entertainment technology company Backlight will showcase the latest updates to its Backlight Creative product lines – ftrack, iconik and Gem – including the first integration between two Backlight Creative products that opens up new workflows to creatives worldwide.

The new integration between ftrack’s creative review and approval product, cineSync, and iconik brings a new level of accessible media asset management to cineSync users while also extending iconik’s media playback functionality to include original, high-resolution content and interactive reviews.

The integration is said to deliver a smoother workflow for cineSync users who wish to store, manage, access and share their project media with collaborators. cineSync users can explore and browse media in iconik, select versions or media they want to review, and load that media into cineSync for synchronised review.

It also allows for the simple distribution of review media for guests in a cineSync review, who can automatically download files from the specified iconik location when they join the review. File transfers are encrypted and watermarked for security and can be set to auto-delete from guest machines at the end of the review.

Inside iconik, users can select media and launch a cineSync review session containing iconik-based versions or collections directly from inside the iconik UI. At the end of the cineSync review, all notes and annotated frames can be exported back to iconik and stored against the correct versions or media, so all feedback is captured and sorted in iconik as the single source of truth.

The integration puts high-end review functionality at the fingertips of iconik users, including interactive (synchronous) review, and the ability to playback high frame rate, high resolution and high dynamic range original media in their native file formats.

The integration is available to users who are subscribed to both cineSync 5 Pro and iconik.
