NAB 2023: Backlight to showcase Zype and Wildmoka updates

Backlight will be introducing the latest updates to its Backlight Streaming product lines – Zype and Wildmoka – at this year’s NAB Show.

Each update is designed to provide non-technical content owners with simple and feature-rich solutions that allow them to create more content, hyper distribute everywhere and unlock new revenue streams.

Integration between the Zype and Wildmoka product suites is said to enable media and entertainment companies to connect their content to viewers across any digital platform, allowing them to maximise audience reach and revenue. Joint customers can now use Wildmoka to create more monetisable content assets from live with tools to enhance creative storytelling and automate video editing and production, then use Zype to maximise reach of Wildmoka-produced content through distribution across owned-and-operated and third-party streaming apps, channels and services.

New dynamic graphics capabilities in Zype Playout are designed to make it simple for linear publishers to enhance their channels with broadcast-quality graphics, providing viewers with key information about what they’re watching and making channels look and feel like premium television. The built-in graphic design tool combines text and images into broadcast-ready graphics, making it easy to apply dynamic graphic overlays to linear channels to enhance the viewer experience.

Zype Playout Zero-Touch is a new service that allows Zype Playout customers to outsource their channel programming to Backlight Streaming. With Zype Playout Zero-Touch, users can save time and money by outsourcing channel content programming and launch logistics to Backlight Streaming instead of having to bring on new resources, or allocate existing ones, to manage playout scheduling and programming.

Wildmoka Live Studio is a new, live broadcast operation platform that makes it easy for publishers to produce high-quality live shows and distribute streams wherever viewers are watching content. Customers can create multiple versions of tailored, near-live streams from live sources and engage a larger audience through simultaneous distribution across multiple destinations.

Wildmoka Clip Studio, a web browser-based video editing and distribution tool for near-live clips and reels, previously available only in Wildmoka’s Digital Media Platform, is now available as a standalone offering. Editors with no technical skills can extract key moments from live feeds to create short-form, near-live clips and publish them instantly during the live event. The tool makes it easy to create as many versions as needed (multi-versioning) to address different publish destinations – for example, with different aspect ratios, languages, metadata, branding and graphics. It also allows users to assemble clips to create highlight reels.

Additional Backlight Streaming updates to be shown at NAB 2023 include more Zype Playout innovations, such as static graphic overlays for channel branding, playout channel high availability, and additional destination connectors for Zype Playout delivery. In addition, new capabilities in Zype Streaming Platform enable users to better customise and streamline the Zype Admin experience, while Zype Apps Creator innovations include Adobe Primetime support, video downloads on mobile apps, streaming on entry, personalised video lists, enhancements for deep linking and more.
