NRK invests in XDCAM for news, sport and documentary

The Norwegian Broadcasting Corporation (NRK) has been steadily transitioning over to high definition production over recent years and is now putting the finishing touches on the final stages of this changeover. The broadcaster is wrapping up its switch to HD by purchasing a significant quantity of Sony XDCAM cameras. It has opted for a total of 130 cameras, consisting of 60 Sony PXW-X200 models, which were launched at IBC 2014, and 70 Sony PXW-X500 CCD sensor 1080p50 cameras.

Sony won the order from NRK after a mini tender process for the procurement of cameras for the broadcaster. Both the X200s and X500s provide NRK with the flexibility to use the same camera for electronic newsgathering, sports production, live production and documentary production.

NRK also invested in 15 CA-FB70 optical fibre adaptors with camera control units, which enable the same cameras to also be used as system cameras for capturing the action in live productions, further extending the flexibility offered by the X200s and X500s.

“The tender process within the framework agreement has provided a solution with the perfect balance of price and performance,” said Are Andreassen, head of Production Facilities, NRK, about its backing of Sony’s XDCAM products.
