Qvest Media provides workflows in the cloud for nobeo

Qvest Media has implemented a media asset management system in the cloud for the Hürth-based production company nobeo in close cooperation with ProSiebenSat.1 subsidiary Redseven Entertainment.

Qvest Media has also adapted the installation for specific post-production processes. The latter was carried out by Qvest Media together with their recently acquired software company HMS media solutions. The integrated solution is designed to significantly streamline the workflow and enables nobeo to carry out important parts of post-production independent of location.

The Hürth-based full service production company nobeo relies on the technical expertise of Qvest Media for their post production of the successful Sat.1 cooking show, The Taste. “For nobeo, we set up the cloud-based MAM system Vidispine and integrated it into a hybrid solution with gateways for local storage management provided by Qvest Media. In addition, the user interface was enhanced with a transcription logging application,” said Ulrich Voigt, head of design at Qvest Media. The development work and cloud integration was carried out by Qvest Media together with its subsidiary company HMS media solutions, a software specialist for media applications.

Qvest Media relies on a multi-cloud solution for the cloud infrastructure. Both the Swiss provider HIAG Data as well as Amazon Web Services (AWS) are used. Specifically, the two HTML5-based web applications run in a private cloud of HIAG Data, while the video material to be processed is stored and held available with both HIAG Data and the AWS cloud platform for redundancy reasons.

Since The Taste is filmed in Munich at Redseven, but post-production takes place in Hürth, the nobeo management team decided on a decentralised solution in the cloud. The advantage: while filming is in progress, the compressed and unsorted raw video material is streamed to the cloud, where it is transcribed and enriched with metadata in near real-time by the local nobeo post-production team in Hürth. Previously, the material had to be sent by courier, meaning that review and preparation could only begin the following day at the earliest.

Marking the edit points where interesting scenes occur also happens in the cloud. An AAF format timeline file that can be used with Avid editing systems for the final editing of high-resolution raw material is created at the press of a button.

“The new media asset management system offers many benefits which speed up our complex post production workflows and help us optimise them further. We are looking forward to the scheduled release of additional features,” said Ralph Jacobi, head of post production at Redseven.

Stefan Hoff, managing director of nobeo, said: “Together with Qvest Media, we have developed a system that is currently unique in the market. Combining the technical expertise of Qvest Media with our workflow expertise, the solution offers users multiple benefits in terms of automating and accelerating production. I am looking forward to the further development of the partnership.“

Accordingly, Qvest Media and HMS are already working on the next expansion stage of the cloud solution: the integration of artificial intelligence. This will automatically perform transcriptions after the learning phase.
