RTL9 Luxembourg retrieves media with Marquis Broadcast
RTL9 is now using Marquis Broadcast’s Project Parking archive and retrieve solution to archive content at the station which is broadcast from Luxembourg and is distributed in France as well as in Switzerland. Project Parking, which is marketed by reseller CTM Solutions in France, will now help RTL9 to improve the management of its archives.
“RTL9 offers a broad menu of family entertainment and now its production team will be able to take advantage of the benefits that Project Parking can bring,” explained Ben Miles, business development manager, Marquis. “The solution will now allow RTL9’s team to analyse and manage projects and media on their edit storage.
“Project Parking will then enable them to prioritise by size, project, location, age and then archive their projects files to second tier storage at the touch of a button, schedule snapshots of versions of projects, or move from one location to another, while still maintaining a usable and easily accessible format for future use. Duplicated and orphaned files can be found and delete, all helping optimise valuable edit storage space.
“In addition, Project Parking will enable the transfer projects from different locations to tiers of storage as required,” continued Miles. “Users can also create multiple archive destinations, for example another shared storage area or even a locally attached USB drive. After archiving and transferring media off-line — selected Projects or Bins can be restored and merged with the original media back on-line. A detailed report is produced upon completion of an archive providing certain knowledge that the project will be in exactly the same state when restored.”
Project Parking works as it understands the relationships between Avid projects, folders and bins and all its media. It does this by examining all project files and compiles a list of complete media references. Project Parking then looks at all the media and matches the project references to that media allowing the application to complete some very useful tasks including the analysis of workspaces and the archive and transfer of projects. This in-turn allows edit storage to be ‘freed-up’ and back-up and recovery becomes a straight forward task.
