Saarländische Rundfunk connects to ARD group with new production infrastructure

The Arvato Systems VPMS implementation at Saarländische Rundfunk is now fully operational. Production and editorial teams find their tasks simpler to perform, aided by the new centralised structure making workflows smoother and more efficient. Connecting to the SR and ARD central archives has never been easier — also due to the new structure — with reports, images and audio all easier to find and simpler to use.  On January 23, the system went into operation at the Saarbrücken site.

Before they were ready to implement full HD production, SR had some work to do upgrading their infrastructure. It made sense to take the opportunity to review and tailor affected workflows and to create the connectivity needed for future-proofed, fully networked operations. The future-readiness of cross-media played a key role here. Workflows that allow content to be published to both linear TV and online platforms will become increasingly important in the future and the new system has the flexibility to allow workflows to be revised or expanded as required.

“We are delighted to have gained a new VPMS customer within the ARD group. SR will be able to use the new system for central management of the production environment for HD programmes and archive material, secure in the knowledge that the system will be able to respond to the changing demands of the world of media”, comments Holger Noske, Vice President Broadcast Solutions, Arvato Systems. “VPMS is also an important building block in connecting SR with the rest of the ARD group,”
As well as the new production infrastructure, the VPMS implementation means that all media content – including current productions as well as the SR and ARD archives – is available to all journalists at all times. Searching across the entire system will be significantly easier in the future.
