Sky to broadcast European Aquatics Championships 2022

Following the announcement last month that RAI will be the host broadcaster for the European Aquatics Championships, which will be held in Rome from 11-21 August 2022, it has now been revealed that Sky will also cover the 36th edition of the aquatics championships live.

This is the first time Europe’s largest media company and pay-TV broadcaster will broadcast the event, which returns to Rome for the first time since 1983.

Italian state broadcaster RAI will provide the domestic and international signal and, in conjunction with the Local Organising Committee, will plan and offer all the required logistical support to get the best media coverage of the event.

There will be over 100 hours of TV production to live stream each of the five events to reach an estimate audience of 200 million viewers.

The European Championships are expecting to welcome 1,500 athletes from 50 countries to take part in the scheduled 77 events that will award 231 medals.

Around 100,000 spectators are expected across the competition venues: the Stadio del Nuoto, located in the Foro Italico sporting complex, will be the main venue for swimming and diving; the Stadio Pietrangeli will be the main competition site for artistic swimming; Ostia Lido, Rome’s coastline, will host the open water swimming, while an iconic location in Rome is set to be unveiled for high diving.
