Sky VIP and Sky Production Services celebrate success of The Big Quiz

Sky Production Services and Sky VIP are celebrating the successful completion of their first virtual quiz, The Big Quiz. Presented by Jamie East and only available to Sky VIP customers, it integrated Sky content from Sky Cinema, Sky Sports, Sky News, Sky Documentaries and Sky One to challenge the audience’s knowledge and bring a truly interactive quiz experience directly to their homes.

Building on the success of previous Sky VIP projects such as Sky VIP’s Night In with Anthony Joshua, Sky VIP’s Night In with Brassic & Served! With Jade Thirlwall, Sky VIP collaborated with Sky’s technical team to produce their first virtual quiz, utilising Sky’s brand-new Virtual Production Suite (Sky VPS).

Operated using two virtual control rooms, the quiz featured numerous pre-event VTs introducing each round and GFX all made from scratch and played in during the event. With the help of both original and new Sky VPS integrations, the production was carried out in vMix, the output streamed into Phenix, and the embedding handed into Monterosa for quiz players at home.

On the day, The Big Quiz saw an initial 52,000 people enter the quiz through the app, a peak interaction of 22,000 users, and 90% retention through to the end of the quiz. While #TheBigQuiz and #SkyVIP were trending first and third on Twitter, respectively.

Accessible through the MySky app, Sky VIP is a loyalty programme that rewards customers for the time spent with Sky with exclusive prizes, from access to new Sky technology, free tickets to events across the country, and unique only-Sky can experiences.

Sky VIP senior producer, Karen Swift said: “The Big Quiz was a great example of best in class collaboration at Sky with highly skilled experts across the business working closely together to deliver a fantastic, ‘only Sky can’, virtual experience for our VIP customers to enjoy. A first for Sky, the brilliant technical and graphics teams at SPS were instrumental in integrating the live streamed event, VT edits and quiz mechanics, ensuring the production ran smoothly. It was a big hit with our customers and has set the bar for future Sky VIP virtual experiences.”

Sherida Denny, studio manager, Sky Production Services, said: “The teams working across Sky were challenged to integrate the quiz tools into a never trialled before workflow. Through amazing team work, not only were we able to achieve this, but we were also able to help deliver a seamless virtual experience that our customers thoroughly enjoyed.”
