SMPTE Hong King section to host standards update

The Hong Kong section of the Society of Motion Picture and Television Engineers (SMPTE) will ost the organisation’s Standards Update meeting from March 4-9 at the Hong Kong Design Institute (HKDI). As well as providing a venue for meetings among SMPTE members, the event wll feature a one-day seminar, ‘SMPTE Standards Update With a Focus on Compression and Beyond HD’, on March 9.

Dr. Hans Hoffman, engineering vice-president at SMPTE, comments: “The SMPTE standards team is delighted to be holding meetings in Hong Kong for the first time. Some 50 experts from many areas will participate, and we will leverage their attendance to present a seminar that highlights current developments in SMPTE and other standards bodies.”

Presentations will include hot topics along with applications and their development, with a specific focus on UHD (4K and beyond) and the newly released international codec HEVC (H.265).
