Sony and Evertz to collaborate on IP infrastructure

An agreement with Sony to collaborate on IP interoperability was announced by Evertz at IBC. Evertz said the initiative would allow customers to use an IP infrastructure in their facilities for SD, HD, 3G, 4K and 8K video formats, and support broadcasters through the transition from legacy SDI to IP-based systems.

Sony’s Network Media Interface makes use of standard network infrastructures to transmit HD and 4K video, audio, and metadata in low latency and noise-free switching while genlocking over IP. Evertz is offering its Software Defined Video Network (SDVN) solution to provide an IP-based infrastructure.

SDVN makes use of Magnum, a unified orchestration and control system from Evertz, along with the company’s EXE-VSR and IPX high capacity IP switching fabrics and IP gateways.

Evertz said SDVN provides scalability for handling SD/HD/3G/4K/8K over a 10GbE packet core, while maintaining the simple and robust control interface found in legacy SDI systems.

Evertz said the result of this initiative would provide customers with complete IP-based solutions from production to broadcast infrastructures, with streams that flow over Evertz’s EXE-VSR and IPX switch fabrics.
