Sport Buff adds sport broadcast veteran Simon Green to board

Sport Buff has appointed Simon Green, formerly head of BT Sport, to its board and welcomed him as a shareholder.

The appointment comes soon after the announcement of $2.5million of global investment in seed funding in August 2022.

Green drove BT Sport from inception in 2012, building the business and its reputation through Premier League coverage and rights acquisitions including UEFA Champions and Europa League football, WSL, Premiership and European rugby union, boxing, UFC, MotoGP, women’s tennis and WWE. He previously worked at Sky Sports, Setanta, Fox Sports, The Football Association and Box Nation.

Confirming the appointment, Sport Buff founder and president Jonty Whitehead said: “It’s powerful for us to add Simon’s experience to the Sport Buff board and shareholding as we continue to grow at pace.

“Simon has huge knowledge of broadcast, production and partnerships and a proven record of building businesses and helping them to deliver. He’s well known and respected in sport, experienced in working with clubs, leagues and global properties and understands both broadcast and digital engagement.

“We now add those skills to give us the strong experience and expertise for the next stage of our development.”

Green said: “I am delighted to join the team at Sport Buff at a time when the business is gaining traction with sporting bodies and broadcasters. The search for editorially relevant and informative live digital engagement around sporting events is fast becoming a factor in how broadcasters connect with new audiences.

“There’s far more to watching live sport now than sitting back and being a passive viewer and Sport Buff offers the opportunity for a longer and richer engagement of events in a way that will particularly appeal to younger fans.”
