SPORT1 acquires Spanish La Liga football rights

Dutch Premium TV channel Sport1, a subsidiary of the largest international cable company Liberty Global, has again acquired the broadcast rights to Spain’s top soccer competition. La Liga’s games will be televised live exclusively on Sport1. The acquisition includes the rights to live broadcasts and extended highlights on TV and broadband Internet. At least six games from the Spanish competition will be televised for each round. All games will be provided live on Sport1’s internet platform.

Will Moerer, Sport1’s Vice-President stated, “our subscribers seem to enjoy Spanish league matches more than anything else, apart from the UEFA European Champions League. I am delighted that, as a result of this deal, we will continue to be able to broadcast the games played by the likes of Real Madrid and FC Barcelona. Our subscribers will be equally pleased that we have not only managed to extend the rights to the UEFA Champions League by three years but also that we hold the rights to various other European competitions – meaning that they will be assured of top-class soccer at the highest level for years to come.”
