Südwestrundfunk parks its Avid projects with Marquis

Südwestrundfunk (SWR), the regional public broadcasting corporation serving the southwest of Germany, has selected Marquis Project Parking to move projects and help manage its edit storage more effectively. Project Parking, purchased through reseller Media Online Frankfurt, is now used in the broadcaster’s Stuttgart and Baden Baden facilities.

“Project Parking is used to transfer huge Avid projects, which are not currently being worked on, from the ISIS to IT storage,” explained Frank Kleiner, Dipl. Ingenieur Fernsehtechnik (FH) SWR.  “This means we can use less expensive IT storage instead of the Avid ISIS to archive large Avid projects. In this way we save time and free-up storage.

“We selected Project Parking from Marquis as it is the only tool which has the functionality to archive/move Avid projects in an Interplay environment to external storage,” said Kleiner. “Typically we use the functionality for managing our longer broadcast magazine content and formats.”

“Project Parking enables you to take complete control of your edit storage,” explained Ben Miles, business development manager, Marquis Broadcast. “Projects can be prioritised by size, location, age and then archived to second tier storage at the touch of a button, snapshots of versions of projects can be taken, or files moved from one location to another, while still maintaining a usable and easily accessible format for future use. Duplicated and orphaned files can be found and deleted, all helping optimise valuable edit storage space.

“In addition, Project Parking enables the transfer projects from different locations to tiers of storage as required. After archiving and transferring media off-line, selected Projects or Bins can be restored and merged with the original media back on-line. A detailed report is produced upon completion of an archive providing certain knowledge that the project will be in exactly the same state when restored.”
