Sylvain Merle joins BCE as CTO

BCE has named Sylvain Merle as its new chief technology officer (CTO). In this role he will be responsible for the management and development of technological activities at the organisation, reporting directly to Christophe Goossens, CEO of BCE.

As CTO, Merle will oversee and administer all technical divisions within BCE. His responsibilities entail executing a roadmap grounded in BCE’s strategic framework and harmonising resources with the company’s objectives. Collaborating closely with COO Frédéric Fiévez, he will facilitate the creation of pioneering products and services while deploying solutions to address the company’s evolution, notably within the Media-as-a-Service ecosystem.

Additionally, he will contribute to the formulation of strategic initiatives alongside Goossens and engage in collaboration with technical counterparts within the RTL Group as well as external customers.

Merle brings over three decades of extensive expertise in technology and media, cultivated through pivotal roles within prominent organisations. Most notably, he was group chief technology officer at Orange/Globecast from January 2017 to April 2024, where he spearheaded the integration of cutting-edge technologies, facilitating the development of innovative solutions for global media services.

Prior to this, Merle served as chief technology officer at beIN Sports/beIN Media Group from July 2013 to December 2016, where he played a pivotal role in ensuring the seamless delivery of premium services during high-profile sports broadcasts. From January 2009 to June 2013, he held the position of VP, technical operations & broadcast director France & Benelux at Fox International Channels, overseeing technical operations for channel distribution across Europe.
