Teledeporte announced as UCI Track Champions League broadcast partner

Spanish public network TVE will broadcast the Union Cycliste Internationale’s (UCI’s) new track cycling series, the UCI Track Champions League, via its free-to-air Teledeporte sports channel. The agreement was made together with Discovery Sports Events, the Discovery-owned event management business and global promoter of the UCI Track Champions League.

Teledeporte – TVE’s sports-specific broadcast channel – will offer live digital coverage and highlights of each round of the UCI Track Champions League, beginning with round 1 in the Velòdrom Illes Balears, Mallorca, Spain. Linear coverage of the race will also be broadcast on the channel.

The network joins France TV, Dutch broadcaster RTL, Belgium’s RTBF, SBS of Australia, Sky New Zealand, Claro Sports of Latin America and Colombia’s RTVC, on a list of broadcasters announced ahead of the league starting on 6 November.

Alongside Teledeporte, the league’s host broadcaster Eurosport is already set to bring the events to viewers in up to 75 territories across Europe, Asia Pacific, Africa and the Middle East. This latest move comes as part of the UCI and Discovery Sports Events’ ambition to elevate track cycling to a new level of global prestige and bring the sport to a fresh international audience.

François Ribeiro, head of Discovery Sports Events, said: “Round 1 in Mallorca, Spain, is set to be a thrilling spectacle. We’re pleased to therefore confirm that, in addition to comprehensive coverage from Eurosport, Spanish audiences will also be served by a prestigious national broadcaster. Across both platforms, local viewers will be able to cheer on the four world-class Spanish riders competing in the series – Sebastián Mora, Tania Calvo, Eukene Larrarte and Erik Martorell Haga. Coupled with a host of recently announced international broadcast partners, this news truly highlights the quality of the league’s viewing proposition.”

The UCI Track Champions League will feature rider talent coming together in a way never seen before, battling it out across five rounds in four countries. For riders, selection represents a ‘golden ticket’ to the most exciting series in track cycling. For millions of fans around the world, it is another step closer to an action-packed, technology-driven sporting experience whether watching live in the velodrome, via a premium TV broadcast, or online. Round 1 of the series takes place on 6 November at the Velòdrom Illes Balears, Mallorca, Spain.
