Telstra in world first with Ericsson MDN CDN

In response to demand growth in IP video, Telstra will be the first operator in the world to deploy the Ericsson Media Delivery Network solution as a fully-managed CDN service as part of their multifaceted approach to both drive cost leadership and a superior customer experience.

Telstra and Ericsson will work collaboratively to develop services and capabilities that drive value from fixed and wireless networks and deliver richer customer experience on services such as Bigpond streaming channels.

Ove Anebygd, Vice President and Head of Solution Area Media, Ericsson said: “We have specifically designed all parts of our Media Delivery Network solution to allow operators to assume an even more active role in the evolving media value chain, enabling them to more readily extend value into new collaborative and media-centric services. We will work collaboratively with Telstra to effectively leverage both the Media Delivery Network solution and their core network functionality to develop strategic content delivery and optimization services, supporting the growth of Telstra’s media business.”

Ericsson’s Media Delivery Network solution allows more efficient delivery of content to the edge of fixed and wireless networks. It works closely with other network technologies such as LTE broadcast, helping to maximise Telstra’s network superiority and continue to improve efficiency in the delivery of video across a range of platforms and devices as demand continues to grow.
