The Greatest Game premieres on Sky Sports Cricket on 5 November

The Greatest Game is the definitive story of arguably England’s finest cricketing moment, the 2019 World Cup Final. With insight and first-person accounts from every member of the team, this captivating documentary takes viewers behind the scenes and provides an intimate look at what it took to achieve the ultimate victory at Lord’s on that unforgettable day three years ago.

The documentary – which first airs on Sky Sports Cricket on Saturday 5 November and Sky Documentaries on Sunday 6 November – tells the story of England’s last-gasp victory over New Zealand in the iconic Super Over to win the tournament. England’s triumph – its first in 12 attempts – wasn’t just a brilliant athletic achievement, it transcended sport and united the country, showing the world how bringing together a group of individuals from different backgrounds can have profoundly positive consequences.

The Greatest Game dives deep into the personal experiences of the players that came to spectacular fruition in the most nail-biting final ever played: from Ben Stokes’ moving tale of personal redemption, Eoin Morgan’s journey from the Irish cricketing wilderness to the World Cup podium and Jofra Archer’s spectacular coming of age, to Adil Rashid’s odyssey from Bradford backstreets to the Long Room at Lord’s.

The Greatest Game is written and directed by  documentary maker Ashley Gething (Universe, Civilizations, Diana Our Mother) and co-written by former cricketer Simon Hughes. The film is edited by award-winning Owen Davies (Drive to Survive), while multi award-winning composer Lorne Balfe (Top Gun Maverick, The Crown) provides a stunning soundtrack. Victoria Barrell and Simon Lazenby of Sylver Entertainment, the team behind the critically acclaimed McEnroe produced the film with Starfield Films and Pitch Productions as co-producers and distributors.
