TV 2’s Sumo Web TV service wins major award

Norway: TV 2 Sumo, the Web TV service of the Norwegian broadcaster TV 2, has been declared Website of the Year by the Norwegian Media Business Association. TV 2 Sumo, powered by the Vimond Media Platform, is Scandinavia’s largest commercial WebTV service, offering a comprehensive library of TV 2 programs that users can view on demand using their platform of choice.

The jury statement reads: “This year’s site has created a pay service on the Internet that has aroused international attention. TV 2 has developed a service that allows users access to exclusive and strong content in an exemplary manner. The winner has taken the development seriously to ensure that content is easily available on several different platforms.”

“Our friends at Vimond Media Solutions have built our service from very little to what it is today, and they continue to be our most important partner, so this award is theirs as much as ours,” said Hege Kosberg, director of multimedia at TV 2. “For TV 2, the award also emphasizes the strategic importance of TV 2 Sumo to our operation as a whole.”

“We congratulate TV 2 on this exclusive and well-deserved award,” said Helge Høibraaten, CEO of Vimond Media Solutions. “Our relationship is close and constantly challenging, and it is because of the dynamic this creates that TV 2 and Vimond Media Solutions have both been able to keep inventing and staying ahead of our respective competition.”

(Just a note: Vimond Media Solutions is a new company launched in Q1 of 2011, but the technology embodied in the Vimond Video Platform has been developed and proven in production for more than 10 years at TV 2 in Norway and at other Scandinavian broadcasters.)
