Wrexham AFC selects Hawk-Eye to deliver skeletal tracking and video review system services for home matches

Following the unprecedented achievement of a third consecutive promotion to the English Football League (EFL) Championship, Wrexham AFC has chosen Hawk-Eye Innovations, a Sony Group company, to provide a new suite of technology services for its home matches from the start of the 2025/26 season.

Wrexham AFC will benefit from Hawk-Eye’s advanced tracking technology, which delivers best-in-class positional data. This provides live and post-match skeletal insights into player movement which can be used for performance analysis and injury prevention. Hawk-Eye has installed its SkeleTrack electronic performance and tracking system at Wrexham AFC ‘s home stadium, the Stōk Cae Ras, utilising dedicated 4K tracking cameras to track the ball and 29 points on every player in real-time. The sophisticated dataset generated can then be used for player performance analysis, giving insights into physical load, and for enhancing fan engagement content.

Hawk-Eye will also deploy its proprietary Smart video review system, giving the power of multi-angle video review directly to coaches, team analysts, medics and other stakeholders. The system can be accessed on various portable devices within the stadium, allowing users to tap into all available broadcast and tracking camera video feeds, synchronising angles from any camera format and frame rate. The user can review any passage of play using the array of playback controls and clips can be exported and shared between users.

Tony Page, managing director of football at Hawk-Eye, said: “We’re proud to embark on this journey with Wrexham AFC, as they undertake their Championship campaign, following their third consecutive promotion. Our SkeleTrack tracking technology already supports many leagues and federations across officiating, performance and fan engagement and we couldn’t be more excited to bring that expertise to a forward-thinking club like Wrexham AFC.”

Kevin Mulholland, head of medical performance and sports science at Wrexham AFC, said: “The addition of Hawk-Eye’s SkeleTrack electronic performance and tracking system gives us a detailed database that enhances our player performance analysis.

“The Hawk-Eye Smart video review system is also a game changer for the club, giving the coaches, analysts and medical team access to real time multi-angle video review and play back features pitch-side. This assists us in our real-time sporting and medical decision-making.”
